New 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 43

2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 43 Overview

The new Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 is the first time Mercedes-Benz created an AMG version of its midsize SUV (the GLC was formerly known as the GLK), and it looks like it's going to be a fun ride.

New for 2017
It starts with a heart transplant. It gets AMG's twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 making 362 horsepower and 384 pounds-feet of torque, good enough to propel the SUV from zero to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds, according to Mercedes-Benz. That power is channeled through a nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and standard performance-based all-wheel drive, with a torque distribution that's rear-biased for a sportier feel. Five performance modes are available: Sport, Sport Plus, Eco, Comfort and Individual. They adjust engine, transmission, suspension and steering response. The transmission has a manual mode as well, which enables it to be shifted via steering-wheel paddles.

The GLC 43 also gets a sport air suspension with active damping and a switchable tune that allows the driver to select one of three drive programs to suit their needs. The brakes are upgraded too, to 14.2-inch perforated discs up front, 12.6-inch units in the rear.

Visually, the AMG GLC 43 is distinguished through some unique styling additions, like the gloss-black diamond radiator grille and 20-inch five-spoke black AMG wheels. There are new front and rear bumpers with an aggressive, aerodynamic look, and unique AMG quad tailpipes out back. It wears matching gloss-black side mirror caps, while unique Biturbo 4Matic badges on the front fenders hint at what's inside.

Inside, the cabin is mildly restyled, with a multifunction black leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching for the driver, and front sport seats. It also uses gauges unique to the AMG model, with a checkered flag look and specific font. Options include more heavily bolstered leather sport seats and carbon fiber trim.

Mercedes-Benz says the new SUV will be in U.S. dealerships by the end of 2016.
