2017 Dodge Charger Overview

New/Notable
  • New Daytona and Daytona 392 trims available
  • Updated Uconnect system with 8.4-inch touchscreen
  • Available Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility
The 2017 Dodge Charger is a 4-door, full-size sport sedan that seats 5 passengers. It competes with the Chevrolet Impala, Hyundai Genesis, and Nissan Maxima. This year, the Charger gets two new special editions: the Charger Daytona and Charger Daytona 392.

In total, six trims are available: the SE, SXT, R/T, Daytona, R/T Scat Pack, Daytona 392, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat.

The Charger is essentially a muscle car for the family. The front-end has squinting headlights that illuminate C-shaped motifs and align with Dodge’s signature crossbar grille. Opting for the R/T Scat Pack and higher trim levels transforms the Charger with even more aggressive looks to match the power underneath. Standard features LED daytime running lamps, power side mirrors, a dual-pipe exhaust system, remote fuel door release, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. HID headlights, LED fog lights, power/heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, a rear spoiler, and a variety of wheels of different sizes and colors are available as well.

Under the hood, the Charger has various powertrain options. Engine options include a V-6 and a few different V-8s. Standard is a 292-hp, 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 that is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. For those who want more grunt, a 370-hp, 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 mated to the same transmission is also available. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while SE and SXT trim levels also offer all-wheel drive. The R/T Scat Pack, Daytona 392, and SRT 392 share a 485-hp, 6.4-liter HEMI V-8, but at the top of the heap is the SRT Hellcat and its 707-hp, supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8. SRT models also get better suspensions and more robust mechanical parts to deal with all that power.

Inside, the Charger utilizes a variety of materials and technology, including a new 7-inch customizable screen in the instrument panel. A 5-inch screen that houses audio controls is standard, but all trims above the base SE get a larger 8.4-inch touchscreen that comes with an updated version of Uconnect multimedia system. The Uconnect system also has Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility. Standard features include USB ports, air conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and cloth seating. Also available are leather upholstery, an integrated navigation system, automatic climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, and a Beats premium audio system.

Seven airbags, antilock brakes, hill-start assist, and electronic stability control come standard. Available features include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warnings, lane keep assist, rear parking sensors, and a forward collision system with autonomous braking that activates in the event of an imminent collision.
